EKU TO HOST LADY COLONEL GOLF INVITATIONAL THIS WEEKEND

RICHMOND, Ky. - Coach Joni Stephens' Eastern Kentucky University women's golf team will host 17 other teams at Arlington Golf Course this weekend in the EKU Lady Colonel Invitational Tournament. The tourney begins Saturday at 8 a.m. with 18 holes and concludes Sunday with the final 18 holes, beginning at 9 a.m.

The field includes Arkansas State, Belmont, Eastern Michigan, Elon College, Franklin College, Jackson State, Mercer, Murray State, Ohio University, Tennessee Tech, Tri-State, Troy State, Evansville, Toledo, Western Carolina, Western Kentucky, Western Michigan and EKU.

EKU is coming off a strong showing at the Saluki Invitational where Eastern finished seventh in the 13-team field. Leading the way for the Lady Colonels was junior Michelle Biro who shot 156 for the two rounds, which tied her for fourth place.

"We were only eight strokes out of second place after the first day. We could have finished among the top four teams if we had played better the second day," Stephens said.

"Our tournament this weekend has a very strong field with seven or eight teams that could win the team championship," she added.

Rounding out Eastern's scores at the Saluki Invitational were Colleen Yaeger at 161, Kelli Wilson and Heather Faesy at 175 each, Julie Bourne at 193 and Julie Estes at 201.
