WOMEN'S GOLF TEAM PLACES THIRD AT ISU REDBIRD CLASSIC

RICHMOND, Ky. - Pleased with a third-place finish in the 18-team Illinois State University Redbird Classic, coach Joni Stephens' Eastern Kentucky University women's golf team will compete next Monday and Tuesday in the Draper Valley Invitational hosted by Radford University in Radford, VA.

In the rain-shortened, 27-hole ISU Redbird Classic, Eastern finished third behind champion Southwest Missouri and second-place Wichita State. Some of the teams that EKU defeated in this tourney included host Illinois State, Southern Illinois, Bradley, Xavier, Dayton, Eastern Illinois, Youngstown State and Western Michigan.

"We played really well. I'm so proud of them," said Stephens. "Our ladies spent a lot more time this past summer in tourney play, focusing on the shot instead of what the score might be, and good things have come from that.

"Our team is really dedicated. They've practiced hard this fall and are working hard to become a better team. I'm very pleased at where we are at this point of the season."

Eastern was led in this tournament by juniors Colleen Yaeger and senior Michelle Biro who tied for ninth with scores of 120 each. Sophomore Kelli Wilson tied for 11th at 121.

Other EKU players and their scores were senior Jackie Biro, 123; junior Krissie Kirby, 126; and freshman Leslie Fossitt, 130.
