WOMEN'S GOLF TEAM CLOSES FALL SEASON WITH SEVENTH PLACE FINISH

RICHMOND, Ky. - A seventh place finish among 20 teams entered in the Western Carolina University Lady Catamount Intercollegiate Golf Tournament closed the 1999 fall season for coach Joni Stephens' Eastern Kentucky University women's golf team.

EKU shot rounds of 319-333 for the two-day tourney in Waynesville, NC, earlier this week. Tennessee Tech won the tournament with a score of 628, some 24 shots better than EKU.

"We played well the first day, but we were all disappointed in our scores on the second day," said Stephens. "We should have had a better finish overall. This was a good golf course for our team to shoot well on, but it just didn't happen."

Senior Jackie Biro and freshman Leslie Fossitt led Eastern with their scores of 163, which tied them for 27th place in the tourney. Other EKU players in this tourney and their scores were junior Samantha Moses at 164, junior Krissie Kirby at 165 and senior Michelle Biro at 166.

EKU closed its five-tournament fall schedule with team finishes of third, fourth, fifth, seventh and ninth.

"We were pleased with our fall season because we shot better as a team. We hope to continue to improve in the off-season with our workouts and are looking forward to an outstanding spring season," Stephens said.
