WOMEN'S GOLF TEAM TO COMPETE IN OVC TOURNEY

RICHMOND, Ky. - Eastern Kentucky University's women's golf team will compete Friday through Sunday in Cookeville, TN, at the Ironwood Golf Course in the annual Ohio Valley Conference Tournament hosted by Tennessee Tech University.

Eastern will hope to better last season's third place finish at this tournament. Murray State is the defending champion, while Tech was last year's runnerup.

"The key for us this weekend will be hitting the ball straight," said second-year EKU head coach Joni Stephens. "It is a very tight course and we need to keep the ball on the fairways. Another key will be putting. We feel we're ready to go and look forward to the competition."

Making up Eastern's contingent at the OVC tourney will be senior Michelle Biro; juniors Jackie Biro, Colleen Yaeger and Krissie Kirby; and sophomore Kelli Wilson.

"Tennessee Tech is the favorite and is playing very well. It should be a very interesting three days of golf," said Stephens.

The tournament consists of 18 holes of golf each of the three days with the first group teeing off each morning at 8 a.m.
