WOMEN'S GOLF TEAM PLAYS AT ELON INVITATIONAL THIS WEEKEND

RICHMOND, Ky. - The Eastern Kentucky University women's golf team plays its second tournament of the spring season this weekend when the Lady Colonels travel to Burlington, NC, for the 16-team Elon College Intercollegiate.

The tourney, which has also attracted outstanding teams from Coastal Carolina, UNC-Wilmington, James Madison, Loyola-Chicago and Austin Peay, among others, is slated for 18 holes of play on Saturday and a final 18 on Sunday.

"We're hitting the ball as well as we have in quite a long time," said EKU women's golf coach Joni Stephens. "Our problem in that first tournament in late February was the fact that we had not been outside but three or four days.

"But we've been practicing well and working on our short game. Even though it is going to be a very competitive field, we're expecting good things from this tournament."

After qualifying rounds to see who will make the trip to Elon, these five golfers finished with the best scores and will represent EKU at Elon: senior Michelle Biro; juniors Jackie Biro, Krissie Kirby and Colleen Yaeger; and freshman Leslie Fossitt.
